Skin cancer is the most prevalent cancer in the USA. Some people are at greater risk of this cancer than others, but anyone can perceive it. The most preventable reason for this cancer is overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, either from the sun or from synthetic sources like tanning beds. People with several risk factors are more likely than others to produce skin cancer. Risk factors vary for different types of cancer.

The two most popular types of skin cancer basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas are highly treatable, but can be hurting and costly to treat. Melanoma, the third most popular skin cancer, is further serious and causes the most deaths. Skin cancer often presents itself as a change in the skin’s appearance. This could be the appearance of a new mole or another mark on the skin or a change in an existing mole.
